Our national debt has risen to over $17 trillion under the Obama Administration, yet our government continues to borrow over 40% of every dollar it spends. I will continue to support true spending cuts and a Balanced Budget Amendment.
We can promote new job creation by cutting red tape and regulations, lowering all taxes, and demanding a free trade policy. Economic growth originates from the hard-working entrepreneurial spirit of the American people, not from Washington. The best thing we can do to reignite job growth in this country is to get the federal government out of the way of the American worker and ensure that the United States remains a top global economic competitor.
Obamacare is one of the most costly pieces of big government legislation ever rammed through the Congress, and we must repeal it immediately. In its place, I will support patient-centered reforms that preserve your right to see the Doctor of your choice, protect small businesses, and lower costs.
I opposed TARP and the auto bailouts. In Congress, I will continue to oppose any future taxpayer-funded bailout. The government should never use our tax dollars to pick winners and losers in the private marketplace.
Obama’s administration has trampled our Constitutional safeguards, producing unlimited deficits and promoting unprecedented dependence upon federal subsidies and entitlements. I’m dedicated to supporting legislation that is in line with the original intent of our Constitution and to working with my colleagues to rein in the size and scope of the federal government.
As a longtime pro-life activist, I will work in Congress to end to the tragedy of abortion. I’ll work just as hard to reduce barriers to adoption, and promote policies that support groups offering hope and assistance to mothers facing crisis pregnancies.
Our nation must honor its commitment to those who have served our country, and to the families of those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. This includes making sure we keep our promises with respect to health care and retirement benefits. I will never support harmful cuts to military spending in order to fund costly, liberal, big government programs.
Protecting the institution of marriage is a critically important issue and one I’ll continue to defend in Congress. I firmly believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
Improve education by returning decision-making and funding to the local level. Parents have the right to choose Charter Schools, Private Schools, and Homeschooling. I oppose Common Core standards that try to force a one-size-fits-all approach to educating our children. I also support the Parental Rights Amendment.
Maintaining national security is one of the federal government’s primary responsibilities under the Constitution. We must ensure the people of the United States are protected by providing for our common defense. But it’s also important that we not forget our national debt of more than $17 trillion. Congress needs to be working with our military leaders at the Pentagon to identify wasteful and duplicative programs that can be consolidated or removed in order to ensure our defense budget is being spent responsibly. I can not overstate the importance of having a robust national defense, that puts the safety and well-being of the American people first.
Serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee, it has been my honor to ensure we are maintaining and developing positive relationships with our allies and nations across the globe. One of my top priorities while in Congress has been supporting our great ally, Israel, who serves as a beacon of hope and democracy in the tumultuous Middle East.
We must reduce our dependence on foreign oil by tapping into our national gas reserves, which are the largest in the world. We must also immediately open up new domestic drilling and pipeline opportunities, along with exploring way to use renewable energy sources. I co-sponsored legislation that called for the construction of the job-creating Keystone XL pipeline.
Our core religious freedoms, guarded by the First Amendment, are under assault by the current administration and other groups who want to silence all public expression of faith. I will continue to staunchly defend our religious liberty from government infringement and control.
I am a strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights. Our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms is absolute, and North Carolina’s sporting heritage is an important part of our state history. I oppose liberals’ efforts to create a national gun registry and any other anti-gun legislation that erodes our gun rights.
